Hidden Perspectives: A Visual
Journal on San Lorenzo,
Firenze
SACI's Illustration
class is currently involved
in a project regarding the
San Lorenzo district of
Florence. Recently featured
in the English language
publication The Florentine,
the project entitled Hidden
Perspectives: A Visual Journal
on San Lorenzo, Florence
uses illustrations to report
on the hidden characteristics
of this contradictory neighborhood,
where beauty and degradation
overlap.
After meeting
with Chiara Bartolini, a
representative of the association
of local residents www.insiemepersanlorenzo.it,
the students learned of
some of the critical issues
facing the neighborhood,
and through their illustrations
can express their unbiased
reports on the central market
building, the open air market,
the church of San Lorenzo,
the Medici Library, the
Alinari archive, graffiti,
street characters, gypsies,
nightlife and pigeons. Click

created by the students
of SACI Illustration instructor
Camilla Torna.
